Meet Jess
Jess Scarane lives, works, and volunteers in Wilmington, a city that suffers from highly concentrated racial and wealth inequality. For years, she has tried to work within the system to make her city and state better: she tutored and mentored young students, served on the board of a local nonprofit that runs after-school programs for Delaware girls, and lobbied her elected officials to support policies that would prioritize our needs, not the profits of corporations and special interests. Jess is running for office because our current system does not work for the majority of people. She believes that everyone deserves a good education, healthcare, a place to call home, and clean air and water. Jess is running for Senate to guarantee that everyone’s basic needs are met through programs like Medicare for All and a Green New Deal. Instead of cutting deals with Republicans that exacerbate racism and inequality, Jess will fight for policies that improve the lives of hardworking Delawareans so we can build a state and country that work for all of us.
On the Issues
In one of the richest countries in the world, no one should live in poverty. We can guarantee shelter, healthcare, a living wage, quality education, and a healthy environment to EVERYONE who calls this country home. Here’s how we’ll make it happen:
Universal Healthcare
Healthcare is a right, not a place for profits. It’s not enough to guarantee access to healthcare when so few Delawareans can afford to use it.
Equitable Education
Education creates opportunity, but years of funding cuts have crippled our public education system and hurt our students and teachers.
Housing as a Right
No one in Delaware should go without a safe and affordable home. We must combat real estate speculation and the development of luxury housing that only the wealthy can afford.
Economic Justice
In our wealthy society, no one should be too poor to live. Our institutions have concentrated wealth among the few, while the rest of us struggle to survive.
Combating Climate Change
Climate change is an emergency at a global scale, and America needs to be a leader in combating it.
